DID SOMEBODY SAY BREAKFAST?

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day to get your mind going and I don't disagree. The problem is that eating that same bowl of cereal everyday can get tiresome. It can also be very high in sugar if you're not watching out. As we get older, it's getting more and more important to stay active and watch what you eat. Below are some healthy breakfast options (at least somewhat healthy!) that you can look to incorporate into your mornings. These are all in my rotation and are quite delicious. I'm always in the market for more ideas for my morning meal so let me know if you have any good ideas!

BREAKFAST IDEAS

1. Peanut Butter Banana Chia Oatmeal

I try to knock out my gym sessions in the morning so sometimes it's a serious hustle to get back, shower, change, and eat before driving to work. One of my favorite quick breakfasts is a bowl of oatmeal with some good fruit, granola, chia seeds, and peanut butter mixed in. The warm oatmeal pairs well with my morning coffee and leaves me pretty full for the next couple of hours.

2. Avocado Toast with Egg – 3 Ways

I didn't fall in love with avocado until about 3 or 4 years ago but it has been no looking back since we got reacquainted with each other. I really like the avocado toast combo and love adding eggs into the mix in different ways to keep things interesting. To mash up my avocado, I spoon it all out and put it into a small cup. From there I mash it up with a fork and sprinkle in some salt and pepper along with lemon juice to give it some flavor. The eggs can be done however you like but my present preference is scrambled. Once my bread is toasted, the avocado is spread on top and the egg is gently added on top. From there I usually add some red pepper flakes and some cotija cheese to make it extra yummy.

3. Love Crunch Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter Granola and Brown Cow Vanilla Whole Milk Yogurt

I also really like a good low sugar plain yogurt paired with some tasty granola mixed in. This is another option for any of you that find yourself in a rush right before you need to get going. For yogurt, I really like the Brown Cow Whole Milk Yogurt. It's only 7 grams of sugar per serving which is pretty low for yogurt. For the granola, I'm addicted to the Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter Love Crunch. That is crack to me! The perfect way to start the day as the dark chocolate gives you some serious dessert vibes.

4. Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

How many of you are sleeping on PB&J sandwiches? Well, that time is over now. You gotta step up your peanut butter and jelly sandwich game with a hot skillet and a little bit of butter on both sides of your bread. Just trust me on this! I like to use Dave's Killer Bread on the healthy tip but use whatever you're into. I'm a crunchy peanut butter kind of guy and for jelly I'm straight strawberry all day. The toasted crispy bread with the warm PB&J is a straight game changer. You'll want another right after the first one so you might as well make two from the get go!

5. BACON, EGG AND POTATO BREAKFAST BURRITOS

On the weekends you can catch me sleeping in just a little bit and then celebrating not having to work with a solid breakfast burrito. My go-to consists or bacon, eggs, potatoes, cheese, and some hot sauce. These burritos are good to the last bite. If I'm ever feeling ambitious and have some extra time on my hands, I'll make several burritos and freeze some of the extras. That makes for a quick defrost the night before and then you're partying the next morning with a bomb burrito in your hands.

6. Turkey Bacon and Eggs and Whole Grain Toast

When I get tired with scrambled eggs, a nice runny yolk switches things up for me nicely. And sometimes you want a break from the OG bacon so you take the healthier route with some turkey bacon. A nice piece of whole grain toast helps bring this all home for a well-rounded morning meal. And don't let any of that runny yolk go to waste! Sop it up with your whole grain toast. Oh what? You didn't know?!

7. Milk & Cereal

Do I really need to tell you about the tried and true milk and cereal? While my younger years were spent gobbling up Fruity Pebbles, Cookie Crisp, Golden Grahams, and Cap'n Crunch, nowadays I'm leaving the sugary cereals for special occasions. I've tried a lot of cereals that are "healthy" but a lot of them still pack in a lot of sugar. Although I have honed in on one specifically that has only 7 grams of sugar and tastes greeeeeeeeeat! (Sorry, had to throw that in since we're going in on cereal.) I first tried Nature's Path Organic Honey & Peanut Butter Crunch Cereal a few months ago and I don't even want to eat any other cereal. I'm ready to go exclusive with this box of cereal. It's not the cheapest cereal you'll find but your taste buds will be very happy with your decision. Add in a little milk and you have the quickest breakfast of them all!

All of this breakfast talk has left me hungry! I like to make a lot of smoothies for my drive in to work but I will save a whole new blog post to go through smoothie recipes. I hope I brought a new breakfast idea or two to your plate today. Please don't hesitate to share some of your favorites as well!
